A Guitar for Jan Tomi
This guitar was built in May 2020 at the Špejchar workshop in Dobruška for my friend and musician Jan Tomi from Hradec Králové. I had already performed numerous services for Honza's instruments, and we had been discussing a new custom build for a long time before the time was finally right to start. It has since evolved into a wonderful collaboration-Honza has already commissioned three guitars from me, and we are constantly brainstorming ideas for the next one.
Materials and Construction
The body is crafted from swamp ash, renowned for its lightness and exceptional resonance. The neck is made of maple and paired with an ebony fretboard, providing the instrument with stability, a fast response, and a clear tonal character. The tuners are by Kluson, while the bridge was supplied by Honza himself-it was taken from a Stratocaster, with a top-loading string configuration directly through the bridge.
Rock Simplicity
The guitar is equipped with just a single pickup by Michal Tůma and a single volume control. This simple configuration gives the instrument a straightforward character, perfectly suited for the rock music Honza plays. The minimalist approach, free of unnecessary components, allows the guitar's natural tone and the player's individual expression to fully stand out.
