A Seven-String Guitar for Martin Vrba
This seven-string metal guitar stands out a bit from my usual builds. It was created for my friend Martin Vrba, who often visited our Špejchar workshop in Dobruška for coffee and always admired the guitars Tomáš Jech and I were building. Eventually, we agreed that I would build one for him too-and Martin chose a modern seven-string guitar, perfect for heavier genres. The instrument was completed in October 2020.
Materials and Striking Details
The body is crafted from swamp ash, topped with a striking poplar burl. The neck is made of flamed maple sourced from Poland, and the fretboard features sapwood ebony. The contrast between the light sapwood and the dark heartwood of the ebony flows through the entire guitar. This theme reappears on the truss rod cover, the electronics cavity cover, and the headstock, where the headplate is backed with ebony. The transition between the light and dark wood thus creates a seamless visual line from the fretboard all the way to the tip of the headstock.
Equipped for Heavy Music
The guitar is fitted with a Hipshot bridge and tuners, along with a pair of active Fishman Fluence pickups, which are perfectly suited for modern metal and other heavier genres. Thanks to this combination, the instrument delivers a powerful, well-defined sound while retaining the character of a hand-built guitar with a compelling story and distinct personal details.
