The Graduation Parlor
This guitar is my graduation instrument, crafted during my fourth year at the Secondary School of Art and Design in Hradec Králové. I chose the parlor model-a design with a smaller body that I had already experimented with during my third year. This project was a true test, not just of my woodworking skills, but of patience and the ability to see a challenging vision through to completion. It was completed in April 2018.
Materials and Mentorship
The top is crafted from spruce, while the back and sides are made of walnut. The neck is also walnut, constructed from two joined pieces for added stability. Both the fretboard and headplate are made of ebony, elegantly bound with flamed maple; the bridge is also crafted from ebony. A significant portion of the construction took place under the mentorship of Tomáš Jech, with the final assembly and finishing completed at the school workshop in Hradec Králové.
The Journey Continues
I built this guitar as part of my graduation exam and kept it at home for a long time. Eventually, it found a new home with an acquaintance who traded it for my very first guitar. She was looking for a more compact instrument than a large-bodied dreadnought, and thus the stories of both guitars became symbolically intertwined. The instrument is equipped with a pickup by Pavel Cejpek, which faithfully reproduces its natural acoustic tone. For me, this parlor guitar remains a definitive milestone-marking the end of my studies and the beginning of the next chapter.
